Friends on Stake. Can u spot a Con?

Featured Comment

Posted (edited)

So I've been fairly active On stake over the past month.

I've discovered the community made a few posts and in the process I believe that I've made a few friends, maybe even a couple enemies.

I know I'm a fairly good judge of character but sometimes I make mistakes when it comes to who I choose to befriend.

Like most, I like to tip friends when I'm able to, without any expectation of any kind of return. I feel great when I send a tip to someone and they truly appreciate it.

But every now and again I find people I thought were friends giving me not so subtle hints that there looking for more then a conversation.    Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with a friend asking for some help or a loan, but when it begins to feel like the only reason they've contacted or ever contact me is to see if Ill send a tip or loan crypto, it kinda burns my ass.

You can't exactly accuse them of it. (Well I suppose you could if your not worried about offending)  but its usually not too hard for you to see that someone is being a mooch or even worse a con.

Sometimes its not as black and white as that though. The cons are really good at pretending to be your friend, only to soften you up for a loan or tip down the road.

Then there's always the players that want to be your friend right after they see you've posted a big win, tipped people or made it rain.  That doesn't necessarily mean thier mooches or cons but it defiantly throws up a few red flags for me.

I want to make friends here. That's part of the reason I come back to Stake. Its more then just a casino to me, its a community that I enjoy being a part of.  However, like any community there's the good and bad people.  You can't always judge a book by its cover, meaning that initial impressions aren't always a great way to decide weather to befriend someone or not.

I have a ton more thoughts on this subject, but rather then go on I think I'll wait for other thoughts and opinions, then comment and question further.

How do you distinguish between the good, bad and in between? How do you deal with them.  I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this subject.

Thanks for reading Friends ; )

You've already answered your own question.  The people I consider friends don't ask me for coins.

You're doing it right!  If you have a big win and want to share with friends then do so, just as you say, without any expectation of return.

There are a couple of threads here about online friends who had a falling out over tips, money, and/or loans.  Free money all too often brings out the worst in people.  In the worst case /ignore is very empowering and very much your friend!

Good Luck!

A lot of people send me random friend requests, and PM me asking how I am etc. They wish me good luck via PM and say how much they lost (probably hoping I will tip them). I mean, I generally ignore these types of people, although, I may ignore them if it gets too much :D

If you spend over a year in here and you come into the chat multiple times a day you will know what you can call friends. The people that add you after youre bet shows up on HR arent your friends... The real friends would tell you to stop on a high streak. Of course people even your friends will ask you for some refreshments but you dont take it as begging you know they would do the same. Just spend your time on here whisely and earn your experience!

Well, friends here can mostly be made out of tips trivias etc. Although, there are kindly people who can be very friendly to you without tipping them or something, chat has plenty of them. However, there are many people that just pms when you win and asks for loans and stuff pretending to be your friends or something which is very irritating and so we can report them.

Well put Wry, friends don't ask for coins. No one on this site should come in with the expectations that others will give them money. If you ever feel like tipping others, that is your own prerogative but it is your choice to make and no one should ever make you feel like you should tip them out of friendship. If people really want free money, there is always the faucet or the can earn it here on forum.

I get a lot of Friend requests from beggars mostly , they add me first then come into my PM and chat like a cool person and then tries to get some money off me by saying something that makes us feel guilty.

I agree with you. Basically, communication with people unfamiliar to you ends with up they ask for a loan and disappear.

I've just gotten to the point where I'll accept friend requests from most everyone, but if they contact me and it's just to ask for a loan or to beg I just immediately ignore and remove them.

Also I'll go through my friends list every once in a while and look for users that have been perm muted and remove them as well.

Ain't got time to deal with that nonsense XD

Its pretty simple really.. when theyre always around during the good times.. and not to been seen or hear from during the challenging times.. then yeah... that says it all.. actions that speaks louder than words.. shows their true colour painted on a canvas in our head.. xD

I usually only add people if i KNOW i can trust them , this requires a lot of time together spent knowing them on site and talking between them, this is really what determines the difference between a con and good one, because the con wouldn't try so hard to just end up screwing you.

I enjoyed reading your post. It is very well written! As far as how to distinguish the players in chat, I think the best route is to just assume everyone is talking to you, being friendly or nice, and wants to be friends with you just for your money. I mean we are in a gambling site! I think it be irrational to think otherwise. Its not a social media site thats made to know people and connect with friends. Its a site where people go to make money and if being friendly to strangers is a way to make money then you can bet (no pun intended) that thats exactly what people will do!

Well, it's pretty easy to tell when you send a tip or post a big win and they become very interested in you all of the sudden, but if I see players who have good attitudes and chat often it's nice to surprise them with a tip. It comes down to how paranoid you are about people's true intentions, which is not healthy. Just go by your gut feeling :D

I am a very opened mined person with a very big heart . I tend to trust more than I should and I have gotten hurt by some"friends" on here in the past who have asked for funds ( which i dont mind giving if i have) but got caught being an alt doing the same to me acting as if they were someone else.

However with that said I will say this it's is only you that can decide whom you feel is real , fake, con, or even just desperate or as Id like to hope all people are and that would be of course a  "genuine friend".

I could go on about this subject for days because there are just some many different aspects to the subject .

Just be you and keep it real because life is a lot simpler that way :)

I've been around for quite awhile. I learned that there are very different types of people around here. I don't mean by race/gender but by personality. There are loads of people here that shows their true colors when free money is involved. Heck someone even used profanity against me when i shared some techniques lol.

There was also a time that i heard there was a mod that loans to players then ran away with it lol. Built trust and relationship with everybody just to beable to take it all home one day.

My point is, it is better not to consider people here as your true friends, better to think of all of them neutrally. just share opinions, play, tip if you want, but never get too attached with people on the internet. You might get disappointed, or worse, bankrupt.

Nothing drives me crazier then someone who you don't even know messages you, only to tell you how much they lost or how long there losing streak was.   Trying to make us feel guilty as you stated in your post.

I don't even know how to respond without being rude. So I usually don't. If I do, chances are they won't message me again, because I usually let em have it, in hopes they might not bother anyone else.  However most times I can't be bothered.

I have found since I've hidden my profits, I do get less of them, but I do still get em.

That's a pretty accurate analogy of moochers.  Always around for good times and couldn't track them down if your life depended on it during the bad.

Since posting this I've found a couple that I thought were friends, but fall right into your description of non friends.

Kinda burns my ass that I was so blind in the first place.  Live and learn I suppose.

Thanks for you response

Very few people I consider friends, would be considered TRUE friends.

I agree 100% with not getting attached to people on the Internet.  (People we have never met or will probably ever meet) because it's extremely difficult to make judgements of people solely based on chatting with them.

That being said. Sometimes we take a chance on people who seem to be genuinely true blue.  But it hurts even more when you find that their not.   Like the mod you mentioned. Some people are VERY good at deception and make it their life's work to befriend, then scam people

You make an excellent points in your post

Yeah, the flame next to your name in the chat definitely attracts the beggars in their numbers xD Some people even tip you when you get a flame, hoping you'll tip them back even more xD

That's one thing I didn't mention but totally noticed.  Players tipping in hopes of a return tip.

When I feel that a player is tipping me for in hopes of a return tip, I tip them back.  The exact same amount they tip me. 😆

Well lol to stop them we shouldn't tip them back once we start tipping them back then they do the same to other players but once we stop tipping them then they won't use this feature ever again
