Necroposting or Re-posting?

Featured Comment

Hello!

I just wanna ask what you guys think about this stuff.

Before I say my piece, I'll describe first what Necroposting is.

Necroposting is commenting on a very old discussion topic such as a few months old, a year old, etc. (I think that sums it up nicely)

As we all know, we have a lot of new and old players being active here on stake forum. Sometimes, we think of topics that we think is "unique" but when we search about it, we find that it's already been made!

I know the best thought would be to just shrug it off and talk about something else, but sometimes, some topics are just so timely. There are even great quality posts from long ago that gets forgotten and the "old forumers" end up linking that post to certain posts.

So what do we do since I have heard that necroposting is somehow bad, and at the same time reposting something similar is also bad?

If you having some new question or bringing it with some ideas from it's thread (which almost the same with the discussed topic) . It's okay to bring the old topic back by replying them. It was another different story if you only reply the topic like "nice, yes, thanks for sharing.", it was considered as necroposting and also abusing the paid per post forum.

in my opinion I think that its time for the forum to get a spring cleaning.

I have seen so many topics with the same subject  made over and over again .  the only difference is a few words in the title.

If Its  a post that is  from longer than 6 months to a year old and is just a basic lame post then  i think it should be deleted.. if its ols but has meaning or is unique then keep it on the forum.. its that simple.

Ohhh okay thanks! So that was what real necroposting means. I thought it only meant replying to old posts, but what it really meant was replying GARBAGE to old posts. Thanks! Seriously, those "nice, yes, thanks for sharing." comments really need to be cleaned! I've been reporting those types of comments these past few days, and it gets annoying fast xD

Yes! Just like on one section of this forum where things that are posted there gets deleted after 6 months(not really sure how long) of inactivity. Although some posts are too important, that's why they should check which quality posts to keep :)

Maybe add a "GOLDEN POSTS" section for topnotch quality posts that will never be deleted? :)

personally i believe the older less important threads should be moved to a archived  section or removed after at least a month so people can stop clogging up forum bringing back up year old posts etc  :)

I believe that if you feel that a very old topic is still alive and can be bought back to life then yeah that wouldnt be considred by me as necro posting but the reply should be something good.

I've made good comments, which were valuable and the comment was removed for no other reason than the fact that the topic was old. I think it is safer to just make a new topic than risk getting a post deleted by commenting on an old post. I think posts older than 180 days should be locked (where the last comment was over 180 days ago).

Hmm, so that happens too even if you commented with quality? :(

Yep that's right. Also, if we're gonna re-post, maybe we can just link the previous post to our main statement, so that the original post will still be credited.

This shouldn;t be done of course if no additional comments or opinions with value is added.

It definitely depends on the original post and the content brought by the commenting.  There are a lot of good topics here that may go unseen for a time after the original posting.  And sometimes it is content that becomes relevant again after some time.  As long as it is informative/constructive discussion, it is not a bad thing for some older topics being brought back up...

To me if you consider creating a new topic just for expressing, providing a more sort of better information on a specific already posted topic than go ahead it will be ok to me.

Edit: It could also update the topics in question and still giving it a fresh look.

Yeah, not on Stake though, but on Primedice (which have the same/mostly the same mods). The comment was a decent one, about 4 or 5 sentences if I recall correctly, and added value. The sole reason for the removal was the fact that the topic was old.

On primedice, topics are more limited to talk about since they only offer dice. So what we can do sometimes will be either comment on an old post or repost it with different opinions. I wonder why it got deleted just cause of that. Also, I believe that they are much stricter there and here not so much anymore. I wonder why

Strange that it is that way, because the moderators are basically the same. I guess some mods spend more time on Primedice, and some spend more time on the Stake forum. I guess it also depends on the mod's opinion, because this involves high levels of subjectivity.

You know what I find strange?

When I post here or the suggestions page, some of my suggestions/post are completely ignored. That bums me and that's when I think they're not that much focused on what's posted there anymore. That sucks though, giving out ideas then being ignored and not getting paid. :(

No they are not completely ignored, they simply do not comply with what the Staff team / Devs want for Stake in a certain future. If they do link your ideia i am sure they will implement it and add to the Casino ;)

If they think that, they can just react with "lame" reaction.

We have reaction emojis that can really express how one thinks about the post without having the need to reply on it.
