IEM Katowice 2020

Top CSGO teams from all over world battle it out in Katowice – The home of Esports, where they’re fighting for a prize pool of $500,000. The group stage format is a double-elimination GSL Bo3 and the playoffs is in a single elimination Bo3 format, and the Grand Finals is to be held in Bo5.

The teams from group A are:

  • Astralis
  • Cloud 9
  • FaZe
  • fnatic
  • Natus Vincere
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Renegades
  • Vitality

The teams from group B are:

  • 100 Thieves
  • Evil Geniuses
  • G2
  • Liquid
  • MAD Lions
  • Mousesports
  • Tyloo
  • Virtus Pro

 

 

OPENING ROUND

GROUP A

The first match in Group A resulted in a sweep between Vitality and NIP, where Vitality took the upper hand. The maps played are Vertigo which is NIP’s pick and Nuke which is Vitality’s pick. The win came from the contribution of ALEX having a rating of 1.43. Vitality moves on to upper semi-finals, NIP goes to lower round 1.

The next match we have in group A is between Astralis and Cloud 9 which also came out as a 2-0 victory in favour of Astralis. The maps played are Overpass which is Cloud 9’s pick and Train which is Astralis’ map pick. Device came in crazy hot with all cylinders blazing having a rating of 1.57 and also Xyp9x , the clutch minster, once again proves why he is named as such having a rating of 1.52 thus giving Astralis the boost to overpower Cloud 9 2-0. Astralis moves on to upper semi-finals, Cloud 9 goes to lower round 1.

Next match, we have Natus Vincere versus FaZe, both teams with top caliber players in the likes of s1mple, Perfecto, NiKo, and coldzera. This match did not disappoint, it went to 3 full maps Nuke, which is FaZe’s map pick and they won it convincingly with 16-9 map score. The 2nd map was at Dust2 which is NaVi’s map pick, it was a nail biter of a game but NaVi came out on top where they won it 16-14. The last map was Overpass where NaVi showed they are the better team in Overpass and won it 16-10. This was the closest series so far where it went back and forth but NaVi came out on top. Natus Vincere moves on to upper semi-finals, FaZe goes to lower round 1.

The last match of the opening round was between Renegades and fnatic, it started on Dust 2 which is Renegades’ map pick but fnatic decimated them in map 16-4 behind a 1.69 rating of JW. The second map was inferno which is fnatic’s it was looking like Renegades is taking this map at the half, but fnatic managed to come back behind a strong performance of JW. Fnatic won this game 2 maps to none of Renegade. Fnatic moves on to upper semi-finals, Renegades goes to lower round 1.

 

GROUP B

The first match in Group B we see the French team G2 take on 100 thieves, G2 rolled past them with a very quick 2-0 where we only see 37 rounds played! The first map was Mirage which was 100 Thieves’ map pick but G2 convincingly won 16-3. The second map was Dust2, which is G2’s map pick, and they won 16-2. The quick stomp was because of huNter-’s 1.77 rating and  AmaNEk’s 1.74. G2 moves on to upper semi-finals, 100 thieves goes to lower round 1.

 The next match we see was between the mousesports and the Chinese powerhouse Tyloo. Tyloo tried to put up a fight but mousesports were too much for them. The first map was Inferno where it was Tyloo’s map pick but mousesports performed better winning the map 16-5. The second map was Dust2 which is mousesports’ map pick they closed out the map 16-10. Mousesports moves on to upper semi-finals, Renegades goes to lower round 1.

In the third match in the opening round of group B, we have Liquid taking on Virtus Pro. The first map was Vertigo which is Virtus Pro’s map choice. The first map went to overtime but Team Liquid managed to close it 19-16. The second map was Mirage which is team Liquid’s map choice and it went their way 16-9 behind a masterful performance of ELiGE going off with a rating of 1.55. Team Liquid moves on to to upper semi-finals, Virtus Pro goes to lower round 1.

In the last match of our opening round, we have the Danish team MAD Lions taking on Evil Geniuses. The first map was Vertigo and it was MAD Lions’ map pick, but Evil Geniuses got the upper hand closing it out 16-7. The second map we have Dust2 which was Evil Geniuses map pick, but MAD Lions managed to close it on a nail biter 16-14. The third map was Nuke where Evil Geniuses took out MAD Lions easily closing the map out and the series 16-5. Evil Geniuses moves on to upper semi-finals, MAD Lions goes to lower round 1.

 

 

LOWER ROUND 1

GROUP A

Here we have Ninjas in Pyjamas take on Cloud 9 where they quickly disposed of Cloud 9. Playing only a total of 43 rounds. The first map was Overpass which was Cloud 9’s map pick where they got de_cimated. 16-2. The second map was Vertigo which is NiP’s map pick it, the half started heavily in favour of NiP thus giving them the lead coming in to the next half where they managed to beat Cloud 9 16-9. Ninjas in Pyjamas move on to lower Semi-Finals, Cloud 9 is eliminated.

The next match of our lower round we get to see Renegades take on FaZe Clan. The first map was on Inferno which was Renegades’ map pick but FaZe came out on top closing the first map 16-12. The second map was Mirage, FaZe won the half convincingly and they ended the map 16-12. FaZe moves on to upper semi-finals, Renegades is eliminated.

 

GROUP B

Lower round action commences in Group B where 100 thieves is set to take on Tyloo. Tyloo chose the first map which is Inferno, but 100 thieves came out on top behind the back of a 1.54 rating on jks. They won the map 16-9. The second map was 100 thieves’ map pick and it was Vertigo. This time it was Liazz’s turn to go off, he tore down Tyloo with a rating of 1.60 closing the ending the map and Tyloo’s hope as they eliminate them. 100 thieves move on to lower Semi-Finals, Tyloo is eliminated.

Next, we have the boys from Denmark MAD Lions take on Virtus Pro. The series went to full 3 maps and each one is as close as it can be. The first map was Overpass where it was MAD Lions’ map pick and it came out as a nail biter with MAD Lions staying on the top 16-14. The second map, we have Vertigo which is Virtus Pro’s map pick and it went in their favour winning the map 16-7. Lastly, we have Dust2 which came as close as it can be. It went to MAD Lions’ favour 16-13. MAD Lions move on to lower Semi-Finals, Virtus Pro is Eliminated.

 

 

UPPER SEMI-FINALS

GROUP A

Astralis, the tournament’s apple of the eye, take on Vitality in the upper semi-finals. The French team Vitality, picked Overpass in map 1 where they were defeated by Astralis 16-9 on the back of dupreeh’s masterful performance 1.80 rating. The second map was Vertigo which is Astralis’ map pick where it went down to the wire. It went to double overtime where Astralis outlasted Vitality 22-19. Astralis moves on to upper final, Vitality goes down to Lower semi-finals.

Next, we get to see the Swedes fnatic as they take on Natus Vincere. The first map was Dust2 which is Natus Vincere’s map pick but fnatic came out as the more prepared team and won the map 16-7 behind KRIMZ who has a whopping 2.16 rating which is the best in the tournament so far. Next map we have Inferno which is fnatic’s map choice it was as close as it can be and it was a nail biter. NaVi barely came out on top 16-14. The third map was Mirage, they are taking rounds from each other back and forth but fnatic showed that they are the better team securing the win and their spot in the upper final. Fnatic moves on to upper final, NaVi goes down to Lower semi-finals.

 

GROUP B

Here in group B we have G2 taking on mousesports where we see them go toe to toe as it went to 3 maps. In the first map,  we have Dust2 which is G2’s map choice but mousesports came out as the better Dust2 team winning it 16-13. Next map we see Inferno which is mousesports map choice, but G2 quickly disposed of them 16-6. Third map we have, Nuke which was close at the half with 9-6 but G2 ran away with the win 16-7. G2 moves on to upper final, mousesports goes down to lower semi-finals.

Our final upper semi-final match was between Liquid and Evil Geniuses where we also see them go the distance with 3 maps being played.  The first map was at overpass which was Liquid’s map choice and the won it convincingly 16-7. The second map was at Nuke which is Evil Geniuses’ map choice and it went to overtime 15-19 where they force a game 3. The 3rd map was in Inferno where Liquid closed 16-10. Team liquid moves on to upper final, Evil Geniuses goes down to lower semi-finals.

 

 

LOWER SEMI-FINALS

GROUP A

In the lower semi-finals in group A we get to see NaVi take on the Swedish ninjas, NiP. The first map was in Mirage which is NiP’s map pick but NaVi rolled over them taking the map 16-3. Behind s1mple’s 2.07 rating. Next map was at Train which is NaVi’s map pick where they were simply the stronger team closing out the map 16-10. Navi moves to Lower final, NiP is eliminated.

In our next lower semi-finals match in group A, we get to see a showdown between Vitality and FaZe. The first map was Mirage which is FaZe’s map pick, it was a close map with both teams exchanging round after round but Vitality came out on top 16-14 where ZywOo managed to get a rating of 1.84. Next map was Nuke which is Vitality’s map choice but FaZe came out more prepared on Nuke and stealing it away from them 16-11. The third map was Inferno where we get to see the stars of each team perform their best but FaZe came out as the bigger team winning it 16-10. FaZe moves on to Lower final, Vitality is eliminated.

 

GROUP B

In our lower semi-finals in Group B, we get to see 100 thieves take on Evil Geniuses, the first map was in Inferno where it was 100 thieves map choice, but Evil Geniuses came out as the better inferno team winning it 16-12. Next map was Nuke where it was Evil Geniuses’ map choice, but 100 thieves stole this away from them 16-12. The third map, was Dust2 where JKAEM and the Aussies showed textbook counter strike and managed to beat Evil Geniuses, eliminating them. 100 Thieves moves on to lower final, Evil Geniuses is Eliminated.

In our last semi-finals match in Group B, we have MAD Lions versus mousesports. Mousesports breezed through MAD Lions in game 1 where we have Train which was  MAD Lions’ map choice. It ended 16-8 in favour of mousesports. Next map was Dust2 which was mousesports map choice and it proved to do them well. Woxic broke KRIMZ earlier record where this time, woxic went off and had himself a field day getting a rating of 2.45 and eliminating MAD Lions 16-4. Mousesports moves on to lower final, MAD Lions are eliminated.

 

 

LOWER FINALS

GROUP A            

In our lower finals we get to see a rematch of our opening round match day, a rematch between NaVi and FaZe. The first map was in Nuke which is  FaZe’s map choice and they came in really prepared easily taking the first map against NaVi  16-8.  Our second map was in Dust2 which is NaVi’s map choice and this time, FaZe was the one in the receiving end of NaVi’s wrath. The map ended 16-6 in favour of NaVi. In our third match was very close, it was a treat to all counter strike fans out there. They battled it out exchanged round per round but NaVi again proves to be the better team closing it out 16-14. NaVi moves on to playoff quarter-finals, FaZe is eliminated.

 

GROUP B

The lower final in group B was between 100 thieves and  mousesports, the first map was in  Inferno where it  was 100 thieves’ map choice but mousesports had this one in the bag. They won it 16-10. The next map was in Dust2 which is mousesports map choice, but 100 thieves proved they are the better Dust2 team and secured their win 16-8. Our next and final map in the lower Finals was in Nuke where 100 thieves proved to be the better team and sealed the deal 16-14. 100 thieves moves on to playoff quarter-finals, mousesports are eliminated.

 

 

UPPER FINAL

GROUP A

In our upper finals, we have Astralis taking on Fnatic. Both are heavy fan favourites going toe to toe. The first map was in Overpass which is fnatic’s map pick but Astralis showed to be the better Overpass team closing the map 16-9. Second map was in Vertigo which is  Astralis’ map choice and they also closed out the map 16-8. To put it simply, Astralis was the only team that showed today thus booking their ticket in the semi-finals. Astralis moves on to playoff semi-finals, fnatic moves on to playoff  quarter-finals.

 

GROUP B

Here we get to see the the French squad G2 take on Liquid, the first map was held in Dust2 which is G2’s map choice and it ended in their favour 16-11. The next map was in Vertigo which is Liquid’s map choice but unfortunately for them, it didn’t go their way and resulted in G2 taking the game and the series away from them, the map ended 16-10. G2 moves on the playoff semi-finals, liquid moves on to playoff quarter-finals.

 

 

QUARTER-FINALS

The first match of the quarter finals between fnatic and 100 thieves was a treat to all CSGO fans. It went down the wire where both maps played both reached overtimes. The first map was played in Inferno where fnatic took the early lead and 100 thieves managed to push it to overtime but unfortunately for them, they fall short in overtime and fnatic managed to close it out 19-16. The next map was in Mirage which is fnatic’s map pick but this time, 100 thieves had the early lead but fnatic crawled their way back to the game  pushing it to overtime and again outperforming 100 thieves in overtime closing the map 19-16. Fnatic moves on to semi-finals, 100 thieves are eliminated.

Our next match of the quarter finals was between NaVi and Liquid. The first map was in  Dust2 which is NaVi’s map pick and it proved to benefit them well as they close the round out 16-11. The next match was in Mirage, which is Liquid’s map pick but they fell short and NaVi took advantage of it closing the map out 16-13. NaVi moves on to semi-finals. Liquid is eliminated.

 

 

SEMI-FINALS

Semi-finals action commences with NaVi taking on Astralis. Before this game started Astralis where heavy favorites to win but NaVi was the only team that showed. The first map was in Dust2 which is  NaVi’s map pick and they made CSGO against Astralis, the currently ranking number 1 team, look easy. They  closed the map 16-5. Next map was in Nuke which is Astralis’ map pick, but the map benefitted NaVi which again closes the map down 16-5. NaVi moves on to Grand Finals, Astralis is eliminated.

On the other hand, we have G2 set to take on Fnatic. The series went to full 3 maps, where the first map was in Inferno which is fnatic’s map choice but G2 showed they are the better Inferno team closing the map out 16-12. Next map we have Dust2 which is G2’s map choice but it didn’t benefit them because the Swedes had a field day in Dust2 closed the map 16-11 tying the series. The third map was in Train which came down the wire but ended in G2’s favour 16-13. G2 moves on to Grand Finals, fnatic is eliminated.

 

 

GRAND FINALS

The Grand Finals was a Bo5 (Best of 5) filled with counter strike action where both teams select 2 maps each and the last one being random. The first map was in Nuke where it was G2’s map choice but Boombl4 had himself a field day having a rating of 2.58 closing the map 16-4. The next map was Dust2 which is NaVi’s map choice, it came down the wire but NaVi showed they are the better Dust2 team where s1mple took over and secured NaVi the map 16-13. The third map was G2’s map choice which is Mirage, but NaVi made it look easy. They  decimated G2 16-2 where all NaVi’s member were in positive rating. NaVi closed the series 3-0 where Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev  was named MVP of the IEM Katowice 2020.

Im literally so excited for this. With mousesports being 25-1 cant help but put a cheeky bet on that
